Here is the fabulous placemat that I received from Marit.

LOVE it! I admired that girl in one of Marit's other quilts, and I'm so glad that I got one of my own! I love everything about this placemat - the colors, the fabric, the girl. It's wonderful!
Here's the back.

I think that we can all agree that you can never go wrong with Katie Jump Rope fabric! Even her signature block is fabulous.
Here is the placemat that I sent to Marit.

She posted more about it here. She really said such sweet things. I think that she made me blush.

I really enjoyed making this placemat. I'm really not very good improv piecing. While some of this is improv, certainly most of the main blocks are traditional blocks. And I loved, LOVED working with the linen (the white part of the placemat is linen). I think I have a new addiction.
There have been lots of circle quilts floating around blogland. I used Elisa's Back Porch templates, that are mentioned by Rachel, for the circle block. LOVE those templates.
In other news, I mailed in my blocks for the Three by Three Swap. A day late. *sigh* Of course.

We're doing another month for July, and then I have a couple of private 9 patch swaps going on, too. One of those swappers has already finished her blocks. *double sigh* But let's face it, Emily is a huge overachiever. She does fabulously wonderful things, while travelling all over to more weddings in a year than I think I've been to in my whole life! The other private swapper, my namesake Michelle, lives fairly close to me, so I might make her meet me somewhere to get her blocks. Gotta love blackmail.
I received my Kaleidoscope book, which, as you can guess, is incredible! I can hardly wait to get started on it.
Okay, off to work on my ever growing to do list. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Okay, BOTH of those placemats are amazing! I've never made one of those. I'm totally not an overachiever like you think...I just neglect all my real world responsibilities in order to sew ;)
I love your Three by Three blocks for this month.
The placemat that you received is awesome, but I also love yours! You did a great job. I can't wait to see what circle quilt you will make. I just love working with circles.
Those placemats are wonderful. What a great swap idea!
I love the 3by3 blocks!
Michelle sure does sew!! Lovely.
I love the placemat you made for her!
Circles and happy hand quilting!
love the placemats - especially the one you made ;) hope I get one of your non-owly 9-patches this time around ;)
i'm so jealous...i wanted to join that swap, but i knew i shouldn't. i love them both, but yours is to die for. such wonderful work!
There's a part of me that hopes Autumn doesn't see your placemat that you did because she going to wish she had a different partner!WOW! Just WOW!Oh and let's throw AMAZING in there too.
Cute placemats Michelle! I can tell you both put a lot of love in them! I had to laugh when you mentioned those drunkards path templates! I received mine about a month ago and they definitely make it a lot easier to cut those blocks out! I agree, after doing a LOT of looking around online, those were the best ones I saw!
Like both placemats but your color scheme is more me. Your 3x3 blocks are great too. Can't wait to see what you make next!
your placemat is amazing! I really love the big block that mimics a plate and the smaller blocks on the right that mimics the silverware placemat.
They're both just cute as can be! I love the big stitching on your placemat -- very clever!
What gorgeous placemats both given and received!! I am quite tempted to do a circle quilt too - looking forward to seeing yours!
Both placemats are wonderful. I love the improv one you did and the quilting on it is wonderful as well.
I agree both placemats are gorgeous! And it sure seems like you have lot of projects going to keep the creative juices flowing. I've got to finish some current projects before I will even allow myself to check out all of your links....
oh, they are both so great! what a fun idea.
have I told you how much I love your stuff? So cute!
Fun swap. Love those nine patch blocks.
Love both placemats. Very cute. Now you need a set though. :-)
ooooh, I just love the placemat that you made - it is stunning and I certainly would have been thrilled to have received that as part of a swap!! beautiful =]
What lovely placemats you must both be so pleased with them.
Australian Homespun has a circle quilt pattern done with needleturning. I am so so tempted.
both placemats are gorgeous! i have circles on the brain. but they still scare me a great deal.
Very cute swap gifts for both of you!
okay, i am back to tell you that your comment made my day. really, really sweet.
i am still blushing.
Ok, I'm slowly catching up on my blog friends, again. I swear, I have some chatty pals! :) And crafty people who are actually getting stuff done and that makes me a little jealous, but happy for my friends. I need to get my sewing room done so I can do some fun crafting instead of dumb putting stuff away. I'm OVER moving and cleaning! We'll be in CA the first 2 weeks of Aug, will you be around??
wow!!! Both of you have a very beautiful placemat creation!!! The colors were perfectly combined. I love it!!!
Those placemats inspire me to make some of my own! I love the katie jump rope backing!
What darling place mats. I especially love the one you made. I could just follow you around all day long...
I'll buy what she's buying...
I'll make what she's making!
I wish.
The quilts designs and patterns are lovely. You really put time and effort on making it so beautiful.
The quilts are adorable! The color patterns of each quilt are amazing.
Thyanks for posting on my blog...
Brother Bob! That is hilarious... makes me think he should be Amish or something
Gosh you've been busy! I haven't accomplished hardly a crafty thing all summer. The placemats are gorgeous! Our trip to Boulder was great fun; it's a beautiful city! I kept thinking how fun it would be to live there (but I know it's expensive). I can't remember, but are you still in Colorado? Boulder was only 3 hours for us to drive.
Thanks for the compliment!
Regarding the t-shirt quilt...I use fusible interfacing. First, I cut the sleeves off and cut around the seams of the shirt. Then, I iron on the fusible interfacing to the inside of the shirt. Next, I take it over to the cutting board and cut away. I like to do the same with other portions of the shirt, so I have some extra coordinating fabric to work with. Sometimes I use the sleeves for the smaller squares, etc. They are so satisfying to complete because of their emotional value.
Those are so pretty! A great way to use one's quilting everyday and a great way to practice quilting or a specific block without feeling like you have to do an entire blanket.
Gorgeous. I can't even sew on a button, but I can recognize beautiful work when I see it!
:)
I love the stitching on that placemat.
